Deputy Chief
Osorio Awarded
2024 Florida Fire Marshal of the Year
Florida Fire Chiefs’ Association recently named Village of Key Biscayne’s Deputy Chief Marcos Osorio as the 2024 Florida Fire Marshal of the Year. This prestigious award honors a fire marshal whose dedication, progressive leadership, and significant contributions have driven efforts to reduce fire-related losses and enhance safety standards.
“Chief Osorio’s dedication to fire prevention, leadership in safety initiatives, and collaborative spirit have helped safeguard Key Biscayne. He sets the benchmark in fire prevention efforts across Florida,” said Fire Rescue Chief Eric Lang. “We are proud of his accomplishments and overjoyed that he has been recognized at a state level for his contributions to our community.”
Osorio has served as the Deputy Fire Chief of Administration and Fire Marshal for Key Biscayne Fire Rescue since 2012. Chief Osorio is also the senior fire marshal among the six departments in Miami-Dade County, with an outstanding record in reducing the risk to life and property damage. His proactive leadership and innovations have made a lasting positive impact on fire safety practices across Florida.
His successful work with condominiums implementing comprehensive fire safety upgrades, including fully sprinkling high-rise buildings, has been remarkable, while his efforts to install two-way radio systems in buildings within Key Biscayne have significantly improved communication during emergencies. Alongside his expertise in the Florida Fire Prevention Code, Chief Osorio’s ability to forge valuable relationships with community leaders has been instrumental in these initiatives.
Beyond local achievements, Chief Osorio has made significant contributions to state-level fire prevention efforts. He has been a valued member of the Public Information Officer Deployment Team and the State Emergency Response Team, working closely with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
“Chief Osorio’s unwavering commitment to safety, innovation, and collaboration has had a profound impact on our community. His leadership has set a high standard in community risk reduction. We are incredibly proud of his well-deserved recognition. Congratulations,” said Village Manager Steve Williamson.
